What is Invisalign…..Really?

Stabbing, poking, and metallic taste are some of the usual associations people make with teeth realignment. Those who have experienced “old-fashioned” braces know this experience all too well. But – this is the 21st Century – we have fixed these problems. Invisalign is a custom made clear braces insert that realigns your teeth without the issues associated with braces. It sounds great – but how does it work? Invisalign takes the idea of braces and puts a modern twist to it. The discovery that the same beautiful smile can be achieved without the use of metal, wires, and rubber bands is revolutionary.

Looking at Invisalign, on the surface, you may think it doesn’t appear to work as well as traditional braces. However, that could not be farther from the truth. We have been fooled to believe that dental work has to be uncomfortable and distasteful in order to be effective. As it turns out, medieval torture was best left in the Dark Ages. Imagine a set of blocks that you want in a straight line – but there are a considerable amount of them. Slowly pushing them into place is much easier than straightening them out one-by-one. Invisalign works essentially the same way, just like braces. Starting with an original picture of your teeth and a picture of your ideal teeth we can progress your teeth toward the ideal. Moving slowly so that your teeth take time to adjust and become set – every two weeks (this is approximate sometimes it will be longer) – you will receive a new insert. Each insert will be slightly different and each one will slowly move you towards your ideal smile. Being able to see a beautiful smile is one of the perks of Invisalign! No metal braces obscuring everyone’s view!

Many of you are reading this and thinking we are promoting braces. Essentially we are – but keep in mind that these are practically invisible – the insert is clear and you avoid the pain of traditional braces but the process is virtually the same. You are working towards a beautiful smile and avoiding the scarring and bleeding of traditional braces. Everyone can see your beautiful smile with no metal obstruction. You are able to brush your teeth normally with Invisalign and avoid the tooth decay that is so often associated with teeth realignment due to it being difficult to properly clean your teeth with traditional braces.

Traditional braces use wires and rubber bands to pull and move teeth into the desired position. Invisalign shifts and urges teeth towards an ideal smile. Although there is always some pain associated with teeth realignment – Invisalign takes out a good deal of it. We are looking at a more beautiful smile with a much easier process and a superior cosmetic expression.

Invisalign is simply a mouthpiece that you replace every few weeks. It is really as simple as that. You’re putting a mouthpiece in and letting it go to work.
