Many people don’t realize how important the gums are to the cosmetics of a smile. In some cases where the gums are overgrown or if the gum heights don’t match, it can distract from an otherwise beautiful smile. Many times we can cosmetically shape the gum with our laser in one treatment. This is called Gum Contouring.
We can also do this around crowns in which we need to reach solid tooth structure to allow for a new crown to be placed properly. The laser can also be used for a variety of other applications such as gum detoxification, healing soft tissue ulcers and treatment of tight frenums. Gum contouring can also be used in severe periodontal disease to help rid the mouth of irritated gum tissue and begin the reparative process. This allows for a better cosmetic result of the gums and a healthier smile.
